More Than History EDucation

Welcome to my online portfolio! On this site you’ll find information about me, my resume, teaching philosophy, curriculum samples, and projects from career centered classes. My degree is History, with a concentration in Secondary Education from Appalachian State University. My goals are to help students succeed in every aspect of life. To do so, I believe educators should constantly be growing in their craft. Below are some of the articles I’ve been reading to help keep my health, education, and goals in check in order to do so, as well as some of the educators I’m following for guidance. Have fun exploring!

Health

Health is a three-pronged system involving mental, physical and emotional maintenance. True health requires strength in all areas. The article I’m reading this week discusses maintaining this three-pronged health in and avoiding teacher burnout.

Education

I truly believe you should learn something new every day. Here’s a link to the podcast I listened to this week from Throughline, a National Public Radio podcast. On this episode, “What Happened After Civilization Collapsed,” hosts Ramtin Arablouei and Rund Abdelfata discuss the end of the Bronze Age with historian Eric H. Cline. Throughline is one of my favorite podcasts because it utilizes history to make sense of our present world.

Goals

I like to set a weekly goal for myself, each varying in size, topic, and application. This week I’m working on self discipline. Jennifer Cohen walks us through 5 tips for improving self discipline I’m using to adhere to my goal for this week.

Educators I’m Following

Valencia De’La Clay

Valenica Clay teaches at the Baltimore Design School in Baltimore, Maryland. Clay has been an inspiration of mine in her ability to engage students in the classroom, stay involved with her community, and cultivate an online environment where teachers can learn from each other. Valencia’s platforms are Twitter and Instagram.

Five Foot One Teacher

Brittany is five-foot-one, a teacher, and an incredible inspiration. She teaches ninth grade English at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. As a survivor and an activist, she believes in using our voices to make a difference. Brittany’s platforms include Instagram and Youtube.
